There was a funny work interaction that occured last time Coldplay toured Australia.
A salesperson was riffing with a Person Of Import at work. The conversation turned to the Coldplay tour. The salesperson ragged on Coldplay – it’s a popular opinion, which is the domain of sales. The POI suddenly soured. “I don’t know why people hate Coldplay so much. They are actually pretty decent.” A beat of silence from the salesperson. A nervous “ha.” End of interaction.
This album occasionally feels like it is going to open into interesting territory but it treds around it safely.

The number one job of a sales person is to never voice an opinion to a POI unless they previously ascertained that is exactly what the POI wants to hear.
I have never hated Coldplay nor have I ever liked them.
I’ve always been surprised by their massive popularity.
I also have a strong opinion that Chris martin can’t sing very well and that’s saying something because I’m tone deaf.

Have just caught up on 12 cds in one go.
