An eerie and haunting album. But oddly without emotion. I think it’s Rice’s monotonic voice. It doesn’t have the depth and variety needed to carry this very bare bones style. And he also doesn’t harmonise well with his female back up singer. Shame, some of these quiet songs build up into a string crescendo, and I am a sucker for that.
